I've got a little crescent moon, dark in my blue sky shirt I almost forgot, standing there waiting, half hoping for you to come, running, pink billowing out behind and in front pearly white to jump on my back with a laughsmile

6:49 pm - *sigh* a terrible end to a wonderufl (if altogether too brief) vacation
|
just got back from Deep Creek. ugh. 7 hours on mass transportation w/o andthing to eat but a sierra mist. ugh. Sob story: I caught the Amtrak from Cumberland around 11 am (thanfully much later than the 8:21am scheduled time). I got into DC @ 3:30 and decided to pick up some food from the food court @ Union Station, but as soon as I do I'm accosted by this homeless guys who gives me his spiel about being a veteran and could I give him my change from w/e I bought? So he proceeds to follow me around the food court. I would've given him some money but he kinda weirded me out so I decided that it'd be best to save money and eat as soon as I got home...mistake #1. I took the metro to Franc.-Springfield and got on the 321 bus which makes a loop around Greater Springfield (mistake #2). I should've caught the 322, which goes the shorter way around the loop, but by the time i realized this it didnt really matter so I decided to stick with it. Text of the complaint i sent to Fairfax Connector:
"I caught the 321 at about 4:30 today (Tuesday, August 8th) at Franconia-Springfield Metro Station. Upon arriving at Van Dorn Metro Station most of the passengers disembarked, the bus driver left the bus, and we waited for about 15 minutes. Very shortly before we left I realized that the bus # had been changed to 322 and we were about to retrace the route we had just taken. No warning or indication of this important fact had been given to me, and had I not looked back at the last minute I would not have realized what was wrong. I quickly went to go get on the new 321, which had been parked behind us. However, as I stepped off the bus the new 321 pulled out. My bus driver tried to flag the other driver down by waving and honking, but she did not stop. We drove a short distance to the exit of the Metro station, and both buses stopped at a red light. My bus driver opened the door and suggested that I try to get on the correct bus again. I ran up and knocked on the door of the 321 but the driver simply waved me away. I went back to my bus (now 322) but the driver honked at the 321 and told me to try again. I did so. Not only did the driver of the 321 not respond when I knocked on the door the second time, she nearly drove over my foot as she pulled away. Defeated I returned to the new 322 and wasted an hour or so retracing my steps to finally arrive at my destination. As a final farewell the bus driver missed my stop by a good 15 yards, and when he realized his mistake, braked so suddenly that I almost fell over (as it happened I swung around and slammed into a seat forward of the rear door.
This illogical system of switching bus numbers needs to be changed. There is no warning given or any indication that Van Dorn is the "end of the line" (a ridiculous concept for a route like the Greater Springfield Loop). I had no way of knowing that I was about to be sent back exactly the way I came. Please either change this policy or make it very clear that the bus number will change and that passengers need to transfer buses."
So that was fun. But I'm finally home. I reallllly want to be back on vacation with Michaela. I had forgotten how depressing my house is in the summer with nothing to do but my counselor packet. But I'd better get it done ; )
DEEP CREEK WAS FUN! I wish i couldv'e stayed much much longer. They managed to pack a lot of the exciting stuff into the first few days so I wouldn't miss it. We got there on Saturday afternoon. Sunday we went jetsking. That was very very muchly FUN to say the least. I even got a chance to drive Michaela around...how bout that for an exciting change of pace?! =P Monday we went out on the motor boat and attempted to wake board. Scratch that, we attempted to try to get up on the wake board. That was interesting, but I'm sure Michaela will be a pro in 5 years. We also got dragged around on the big inner tube which was fun, but much more challenging w/ 3 people hehe Michaela was the first to fall off, but thats prolly cause i kept landing on her (they put me in the middle because i'm the fattest...i caught all the splashes =P). We kneeboarded too, another first for me. Needless to say I wasnt as good as Michaela or (perhaps more surprisingly because it was her first time too) Chelsea. hmmm what else. Pool table in the basement, I think i'm not quite as bad as I used to be, but....yeah.
Thank you Michaela for inviting me, and thank you Michael and Hazel for everything, and thank you Chelsea for being cool and making Michela laugh and for hangin out w/ us.
This is going to be a long week. Have fun out there!

Wheeeeeee
So these two weeks of woeful inactivity are soon to come to a glorious end, thank God! My internship with the Fairfax County Office of Partnerships starts next week. Turns out I dont have to commute 3 hours round trip to Fairfax, I'm working @ Annandale Terrace Elementary School most of the time (nice 10 min bus ride + .5 mile walk). Even better, I'm working from noon - 6:30!!! Now I can sleep in every morning, or get in a run. Yay! And I still get paid $800 for the 3 weeks, even though I'm not working 8 hr days. Maybe that'll actuall amount to minimum wage =D not bad for an internship.
Folklife Festival Saturday! Yay for Uma coming to town.
Kevin, Jeff, and Vu we need to doooo something - maybe this weekend if it fits.
Ok, I know its sad, but I actually got 1st 3 times @ lasertag last weekend, what have I become?! w/e I've only been like 5 times ever. Surprising number of TJ people there though.
Just finished Book of the Dead. If you like exciting modern fiction that doesnt read like cheap Safeway paperbacks go read some Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child books. Coincidentely what I'm reading now, Friedman's The World is Flat, is what guilted me into updating this sucker. He spends wayyy too much time talking about computers and such, altho I guess it is important.
I'm sorry i missed disc last weekend, I really wanted to go...got glasses instead! Gotta pick em up in the next week or so. Don't worry, I'm not going to be wearing them all the time, per the Dr.s orders, only in class, driving, etc. I hope they are decent looking...I liked them, but apparently I have really metro taste in glasses...sunglasses @ least =P
So, books I want/have to read this summer:
- Poisonwood Bible
- The Night Trilogy
- Age of Innocence
- Invisible Man
- Looking Backward
- Gah...I lost my list
Anyone have any recommendations? I'm afraid I haven't kept up on my reading...

Mr. Pollet has no right to change Drama in this manner. He has overstepped his bounds once and for all. If a sponsor can go so cavalierly against the constitution of a club what is the point in having one? In the words of Mr. Slivoskey "I would think that the constitution is in place to preserve the rights of the members of the group, otherwise it just becomes a piece of paper." This cannot be tolerated. If Mr. Pollet really wants to "broaden student involvement in the club" as he claims he does, then why does he prevent the students from selecting who will represent them? This is a base attempt to destroy any opposition to the opinions that he himself holds, and I cannot help but find it despicable and unbefitting of any sophisticated, respectful adult, not to mention of an instructor here at Thomas Jefferson. If Mr. Pollet cannot resolve his differences with the members of Drama Club, perhaps the flaw lies in him, not in the system that has successfully supported Drama for many years. I am certain that if this system were instated Drama would be the only club in the entire school in which all of the students in leadership positions are appointed by the faculty sponsor. This system is an inherent breeding ground for blatant favoritism and bias, not to mention further disharmony, exactly that which Mr. Pollet is trying to avoid.
This is one we can win, but we must bring the fight home to Mr. Pollet, fight him in his own element, use the policies and bureaucracy of the administration to dissolve his base beneath him.
Just a side note: Mr. Slivoskey has made clear to me that his comments reflect his thoughts and opinions, not official administration policy. Please be careful when quoting him. Thank you.

NO nation should be able to hold our dependance on their oil over our heads. American dependance on foreign sources of energy is suicide in the making. Can it be avoided? I hope so. The fact that a nation such as Iran has the option of crippling our energy supply is unacceptable. The problem lies with us however, not with them.
ENDING AMERICAN DEPENDENCE ON OIL FROM UNFRIENDLY FOREIGN NATIONS SHOULD BE OUR NUMBER ONE FOREIGN POLICY PRIORITY.

- InHouse: Spain on EU, best delegate!-I got a "Homeland Security" kit, also paper plate for "Most likely to win the power round", Same day as Michaela's Cabaret Night
- William and Mary: Sierra Leone on Commission on Sci/Tech: went with Vu, got screwed on awards, *hopefully* got chair in trouble for plagiarizing the background guide, TJ lost...wtf, aparently some of our delegates got disqualified for plagiarism too
- didn't go to Chantilly
- UPENN: Ethiopia on UN Reform: Verrry tough committee good delegates from both JP Stevens and Horace Mann, no awards...not a good start to my year in MUN (2 conferences w/o awards), TJ lost, Byron gaveled though!
- Hylton: Russian Fed on World Bank, small committee, 3 TJ delegates, 3 non TJ, everyone got awards: 3 verbals to the nonTJ, honorable to Lulu and Steven Cheng?, Outstanding to me and Kevin Liu, Gavel to Sana and Alice
- MASUN: Algeria on UNSC - GAVEL!!!!!!! on committee with Kartheek Mulpuria and Jason GG ewwwwww, crisis was practically about Algeria (if you could call it a crisis...MASUN kinda sucked, the didnt even feed us!), just good country picking that
- TechMUN is coming up-I'm on crisis staff, Yorktown got canceled, Garfield is reschedualed to April because of snow, and Fairfax may or may not happen later, so updates later

11:39 pm - I-NITE!!!
|
I-Nite was AWESOME! Thank you so much Michaela and Janet and everyone who really pulled things who performed. It was spectacular! Now i just have to get the video tape of our spotlight move so i can see what it actually looked like. Hands on Science Day tomorrow, and V for Vendetta! wow...i'm still in shock, thank God Michaela is sooo good..i almost screwed up. everybody did really well though, and we looked pretty good, if i can say so myself. Three cheers for everyone who performed-I-Nite is really becoming a TJ classic, but its so new and different every time! There's nothing i'd rather be doing than an I-Nite routine with Hispanic Alliance and Michaela. Goodnight everyone!
current mood: HAPPY-tired
